Vital Pain Care is a cutting-edge provider of Regenerative Injection Therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP), PRP-Plus, and bone marrow stem cell aspiration injections. These injections are a perfect treatment for those suffering with acute and chronic pain after certain nagging injuries.

Platelet-rich Plasma Therapy, also know as PRP Therapy, has been used in musculoskeletal medicine and dentistry since the 1980’s.

PRP-Plus is the addition of other biologic agents to the platelet-rich plasma, such as amniotic membrane extracts or umbilical cord cells to further reduce inflammation and improve healing.

Platelets are specialized blood cells that release proteins called growth factors and cytokines, which accelerates the body’s natural healing, stimulating the three necessary phases of healing: inflammation (initiates the tissue’s healing process), proliferation (cell growth), and remodeling (such as absorbing old, and adding new, tissue).

PRP injections are an amazing, cutting-edge, non-surgical alternative treatment that uses your own blood platelets to naturally repair and heal itself by regenerating the wounded tissue that is causing your pain.

When ligaments or tendons are injured, they don’t always heal to their original strength or endurance due to limited blood supply where they attach to the bone. These attachments have many small nerve endings and will cause pain when they are injured. PRP therapy and other regenerative medicine injections utilize platelets and growth factors to rebuild tendons, cartilage, ligaments, bone, and fibrous connective tissue that is too damaged to heal on its own.

How is the procedure performed?

Regenerative medicine injections are outpatient procedures that we perform in our office in less than 90 minutes, including preparation and recovery.

Blood is drawn from your arm and spun down in a centrifuge in order to obtain platelet-rich plasma. Using ultrasound or X-ray guidance, a need is placed into the damaged area or joint where the injection is performed.

What will happen after the Injection?

You will experience increased joint function and a decrease in pain as the wounded tissue heals. The results are generally long lasting, but repeat injections may be necessary.

Potential Side Effects

The side effects of PRP injections are very limited as the patient is utilizing their own blood, which they should have no reaction to. Some relative rest is needed immediately following the procedure, then usually followed by a progressive stretching and strengthening program.
